RoC Platinum Edition - some quick prototype photos

We've Gone Platinum!

Hello again! We just received the prototypes of the minis and packing tray for the Platinum Edition and thought we'd share a few quick photos. Not much to say here other than - we're really happy with how it's all coming together. Hope you are too.

(Note: the thumb groove is missing from the left card space in this version. It has been fixed.)

Prototypes have arrived!

Dear supporters,

Receiving the first full prototypes for Ring of Chaos last week was an emotional experience. It's not often that you get to literally hold your imagination in your hands, and we don't take the opportunity lightly. You made this possible, and we're very grateful.

But as Marty DiBergi once proclaimed: "Hey, enough of my yakkin'. Whaddaya say - let's boogie!" Or in this case: let's see some photos of the damn thing!

Standard Edition

See that little flaw, where the art from the side doesn't line up with the box edge? Yeah, we did too. It's fixed now.
Important to note that the scratches on my table were NOT caused by Ring of Chaos. That was JackJack the Pirate Cat.
JackJack (not included)
The new colored bases make it so much easier to know who you're murdering.

Platinum Edition

Important note on these: we do NOT yet have the final prototypes for the minis. These are still the mold proofs. Finals (with the sundrop finish and colored snap bases) are due next week.

Personally, I was not prepared for how awesome the map art looks at this size. It's gorgeous. I get to gush because I didn't draw it.
A close look at one of the two maps exclusive to the Platinum Edition - called "Tentacle Island" for some reason.
The box is dark and full of terrors.
The foil "Cannot Defend" treatment on the Platinum party cards.

What's Next?

Everything remains on schedule. Assuming there are no huge problems with the mini prototypes (and we don't expect any), we will go into production before the end of April, with the print run complete and ready to leave the factory by May 31st.

We also have some updates regarding the Chaos pin, but we'll save that for a different post. We'll just leave you with this to ponder:

Charging for Shipping Wednesday, April 3!
about 2 months ago – Tue, Apr 02, 2024 at 02:22:03 PM

To All Ring of Chaos Backers,

This is just a quick heads-up that we'll be charging for shipping and any post-Kickstarter add-ons through Backerkit tomorrow, Wednesday, April 3. This will let us finalize our shipping arrangements with our regional partners and make sure we're ready to ship these out as soon as they're ready at the factory.

We'll share more details and production photos as we get closer to shipping!

Thanks again for your support!

Where do bad folks go when they die? Glad you asked
2 months ago – Tue, Mar 19, 2024 at 09:39:01 PM

Dear Ringers (or is it Chaosians?):

Production is on its way and going smoothly so far! We're finalizing proofs for all the printed materials, reviewing samples and prototypes for the physical items, and are still safely on track for all the boxes to be finished and ready to ship out from the factory by the end of May - which in turn keeps us on schedule for delivering boxes into your hands by August.

Updates

We got the final art for the last new map that we're including in the Platinum Edition: behold the Lake of Fire!

Where do bad folks go when they die? They don't go to Heaven where the angels fly. They go to the lake of fire and fry. (Meat Puppets fans? Anyone?)

We also just finished choosing between two different finishes for the actual Ring of Chaos in the game, and in true chaotic Beadle & Grimm's fashion we couldn't decide so we picked both! We're putting a different finish in each Edition, so each one will have its own unique Ring of Chaos.

Standard Edition version on the left, Platinum Edition version on the right. Also, who knew Bill's kitchen counter had this much detail? It always just looked kinda grey to us.

Finally, now that we're closing in on finalizing all production elements and have high confidence that we're shipping from the factory at the end of May, we're going to charge all credit cards on Backerkit on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024! So all shipping charges, additional add-ons and Backerkit pre-orders will be charged to the cards on file at that time.

You'll still be able to make changes to your shipping address, but we'll be locking orders for all additional add-ons at that time. So if there's a t-shirt that you were thinking about getting, now's your last chance!

We're excited to see Ring of Chaos come into being and look forward to sharing it with you soon!

Love,
Beadle & Grimm's

LOCKING ORDERS on Backerkit and PINFINITY Updates!
3 months ago – Sat, Feb 17, 2024 at 11:35:58 AM

Business First

We're getting closer to placing our final orders with the factory, which means we need to LOCK ORDERS for our Backerkit Survey on Friday, February 23rd. This means that you won't be able to make any changes to your Pledges after that time (although you'll still be able to update your shipping address up until when we actually ship).

This also means that we'll be closing orders for all the Kickstarter Add-Ons that are currently available via Backerkit (Pin of Chaos and T-Shirts). You can still place pre-orders for the Ring of Chaos Game and the Platinum Edition of Ring of Chaos via Backerkit for another few weeks, so if you know anyone who still wants to order a copy, let them know that time is running out!

This message is super important to the 600 backers who still haven't completed their survey. If we don't get your details, we can't ship you your game!

Once all the Backerkit Surveys are locked, we'll be finalizing production dates and estimated shipping times. Once we have an estimated ship date from the factory, we'll let you know... and that's when we'll charge you for shipping via Backerkit (we expect that will be a few more weeks still). And then we'll get to shipping Ring of Chaos to you!

The Pin of Chaos Becomes a Reality!

The Pin of Chaos is getting closer to reality (augmented reality, that is)! The main functionality of the Pin of Chaos will let you choose from multiple catchphrases for each of the 8 Adventuring Parties, read by Matthew Lillard and other voice actors that we can wrangle. We spent some time this past weekend coming up with our favorite catchphrases to record.

We also got the first production version of the pin itself! Here are some sneak peeks at the first production versions and the Augmented Reality interface:

And here's a video of the interface in action!

Behind the Scenes Video!

We all got together last week to work on ideas for future versions of Ring of Chaos and other game ideas. We also spent some time signing bookplates for the Autographed Platinum Editions! We had a blast!

That's it for now. We'll have more updates in the coming weeks as we finalize production and prepare for shipping, so keep an eye out for future updates and thank you again for your support!

With love,
Bill, Charlie, Jon, Matt and Paul
